Prior to establishing Rowland Media Productions, John had a long and diverse career in media. From running his own recording studios and production companies in London, then in Melbourne over a period of 25 years, John went on to become CEO of Comic Relief Australia, the Australian branch of the iconic British-based charity. John was then appointed CEO of Albert Street Productions; in that role he was responsible for a number of landmark projects documenting the work of many charitable and educational organisations (including Edmund Rice Education Australia, Mary MacKillop’s Sisters of St Joseph, Newman College at Melbourne University). He also undertook a range of corporate productions, training & safety films, TV commercials and other projects. His many skills were brought to bear in servicing the requirements of the advertising and marketing industries, broadcast television and post-production. He took a specialist role at the 2008 Beijing Olympics ensuring consistency and quality control of audio output from 82 separate venues. (This was the first time the Olympics had been transmitted with digital 5.1 surround sound.) During his years in the UK John also taught at London’s renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He brings a life-long commitment of quality production and storytelling.


John Barber

John Barber is recognised industry-wide as a leader and innovator in the field of broadcast post-production. His early post prpoduction work included such classic dramas as ‘Cop Shop’, ‘Skyways’ and ‘Neighbours’, and many other programs. An industry pioneer in the development of 3D computer animation software and post-production processes, John applied his skills to sports programs, the popular ‘Fast Forward’ comedy series, and a raft of high-profile international sporting events including World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and Stuttgart, swimming championships in Rome, athletics in Gothenburg, and notably the Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney summer Olympics, and the Salt Lake winter Olympics. And this only scratches the surface!
Since 2007 John has been applying his skills in the corporate field. He has acted as 2nd unit DOP, location lighting/technical director and stills photographer on many major productions. He’s also an accomplished graphic designer, creating DVD labels and slicks as well as graphic elements within productions. John has written articles for broadcast industry magazines, scripts for children’s TV, sketch comedy, and training material for TV videotape operators.


Peter Thomas

A veteran television program maker, Peter has produced, directed and written television for ABC-TV, SBS and commercial networks. In the early part of his career he produced children’s, current affairs, light entertainment and ‘talk’ genres; in recent years he has specialised in social documentary, including “The Teacher”, the internationally acclaimed feature about the Dalai Lama. Co-founder of Albert Street Productions he has produced numerous video education resources and corporate productions including a ‘how to’ series of videos distributed globally through wholesale and retail outlets. The producer of countless educational video resources including, “Islam in Australia” and “Common Belief” his productions have been widely acclaimed by educators in schools and community groups. He was the C.E.O. of ‘Caritas’, a hospital TV channel that each week supplied 28 hours of programming including drama, documentary, instructional, music, selected corporate and other genres to hospitals throughout Australia.


Barbara Rowland

Barb has worked in advertising, media, graphic design and the education sector for over 30 years. Initially working with John in their studios and production companies in London, John and Barb then set up and managed a successful Melbourne-based recording studio complex. Barb’s extensive experience in all aspects of audio and video production procedures, small business administration and production budgeting & costing, makes her an invaluable member of any production team.
